monthly goals // may edition

May 2, 2012

I want to get into the habit of posting some monthly personal + business goals for myself. First of all, I'm an obsessive list jotter, note taker, legit scribbler kind of girl, so this is right up my alley. And secondly, posting it gives me some accountability, especially in the case of some not as fun goals (ahem. working out and all. ;)) Because a post feels empty without at least one picture, sticking a photo up top from a recent birthday shoot I did of Gracie-girl that I can't wait to share with you all! In the meantime, here are my may goals.

PERSONAL

- Work out 4-6 times a week. I've kind of been on and off of the exercise wagon the past month, and I'd like to jump back in full-force.
- Drink six Glasses of water a day.
- Clean out my closet. I have shirts stuffed in the back from seventh grade (ummm...embarrassing much?) and outfits I haven't worn for literally years.
- Simplify and de-clutter in all areas of my life.
- Read through Hebrews
- Go to the Library at least once.

BUSINESS

a mish-mash of photography + design
- Buy domain name. Manyrandommusings.blogspot.com isn't cutting it anymore. ;)
- Finish designing business cards + order.
- Finalize summer plans (excited! can't wait to share)
- Complete package structure.
- Purchase new camera gear.
- Finish all blog designs by the 20th.
- Update Portfolio.

What do you want to accomplish this month? Would love to hear some of your own goals! And if you have any tips for drinking more water, I would be really appreciate. I can't seem to get into the habit, so I'm looking for suggestions. Seriously. xo

  2. LOVE this! And the photo is beautiful! (Did I tell you I also LOVE your design? I think I did, but I'll just say it again. I adore it.) These are almost exactly my personal/business goals, seriously!! I just need to do a lot of spring cleaning everywhere. And I know what you mean about drinking more water -- I don't seem to drink enough! I've found that it helps to have a water bottle with me when I go around the house, especially when I'm on the computer. I find that I end up drinking more water that way. :)

    Lovely post!

  4. Looks similar to what I am working on this month! I just bought a domain and am designing my webpage (I do photography), getting new gear (it just shipped, yay!) working out 6x a week, summer plans... yes yes and yes :)

  5. Lovely photo! I need to make a list for myself too. :)

  6. Definitely a huge list/note/writing-things-down person myself. I always reflect on the past month and write new goals for the next one in my journal.
Go to the library and pay that fine? Or, you know, stealing a sib's card is okay too. :)
    xo.
p.s. realize I never replied to your email MONTHS ago. well I'm just great at remembering things. ;)

  7. If we were all elves and dwarves and hobbits and all, Gracie would be an elf I think. Her face is just beautiful. Her nose, her mouth her eyes. Just gorgeous. And lists are good. I used to be more of a list person. It tapered off, somehow. But I'm going to bring it back in full force! I'm definitely a scribbler though. And water, try drinking two glasses at each meal. I've been trying to avoid too much dairy (I'm thinking I might be needing to jump on the gluten free / lactose free bandwagon. I've been avoiding, sigh.) so I've been drinking lots more water but I can't say that I did it purposefully.

  8. awesome goals, and your photography=awesome. And what helps me drink more water is if I drink it from a cool cup (ha, I know, a little elementary;) ha! I have myself a cup from Starbucks and it just makes it more fun for some reason:) haha!

  9. Hi Hannah! I don't believe that I've commented in the past, but I just wanted to say "hey" and "keep up the great work"! Your photos and blog are beautiful. :)

I happen to be a list person as well (hopelessly so), and might use this idea on my blog too... There is fantastic accountability in being able to share goals and things with your readers instead of keeping them all to yourself! Good motivation...

    Have a great day,
    Lauren

  10. I'm hoping to accomplish a lot this month! FInishing some shoots, structuring package structures as well, and spending time with people. Like actually appreciating them instead of running around with a camera in their face.

  11. Nice goals! A lot of those on there are something I need to do as well (*cough* closet cleanout *cough*) :D

I've found that it helps imensely to have a non-disposable water bottle of decent size to carry around. :) I have one with a filter in it, and carying that with me has helped a lot. It's kinda crazy, no?

    Good luck finishing your goals!

  12. I'm rather an obsessive list-maker too. I love them. (:
My only suggestion for drinking more water would just be to carry it with you everywhere. I find that when I actually remember to bring a bottle to class, or if I just grab a cup to sit next to me while I'm watching a movie or on the computer or studying, I'll compulsively drink it just because I have it there beside me. It works. (:
Gracie is beautiful, and your photography of course continues to be so as well. ♥♥

  13. I have slips of unorganized lists all over the place, but I think it's the actual writing them down helps. ;) Business side sounds wonderful, so excited for you. :)
As for me, I need to *hangs head* clean my room, along with my closet. It looks like I just threw my laundry on the floor in the general direction of my closet... oh wait.
And finish up school work. aii.
For drinking a lot of water: fresh lime wedges and a straw. it works ;)

  14. ...and we basically just wrote the same post within an hour of each other! ha! great minds think alike? ;)
as far as water goes, that's on my list too. I've been slicing up a lot of fresh fruit and tossing that into the glass...seems to help!

  15. I have a list post saved in my draft a bit like this. I love lists and organisation and planning. So many ideas!

  16. "I'm an obsessive list jotter, note taker, legit scribbler kind of girl."
Oh yes, most definitely me too :) I feel so much more organized when I put my goals down in writing.
As for drinking water, I find that if I have a glass near me as often as possible, I'll remember to drink it.
    xx.

  17. oh heeeyy!!! if you dont want any of those clothes sitting back in your closet?? I WOULD LOVE THEMM. NO, seriously!! :P caaant wait for the business cards!! (:

I am a soda hater.. so water is like.. my LIFE. tips?? drink it instead of a snack!?

  19. "Go the the library at least once" I should force myself to go there. Libraries + Anna Gray...eh.

This month? My three main goals are #1 To. Finish. Math. #killmenow #2 To purchase a 50mm lens. #3 To stay in shape; exercising (still using your routine!), stretching, walking around the block.

Best of luck to you and your goals! Maybe I should add "Go to the library" to my goals...hmm...

    ReplyDelete
  20. P.S. I just realized how many times I said the word "goal" (ooh! Said it again)...my apologies... ;)

  21. Goals are such worth-while things to have. I have a small group of people and we email our goals for each week to each other. It’s amazing how much accountability works! One way I drink more water is to add a little bit of lemon juice and sometimes a little Splenda. For some reason, I can drink water so much faster that way. =) I hope that helps.

  22. wow. i love these lists. i may just add these to my own. cause i'm just that original. as to the water-drinking: i have a glass that holds exactly 16 ounces. i fill the glass up in the morning and then go every hour or two and drink half the glass. then, by the end of the day, i will have had more than the minimum amount encouraged :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. this is an awesome idea -- i've been wanting to do something similar ;)

i don't know if anyone has suggested it yet, but here's how I drink more water: whenever i get the "munchies," or think i need a snack, i first drink one or two glasses of water. if i'm still hungry, then i can snack ;) it's pretty effective, since i often get hungry when i'm bored.

  24. Love this! And list making is one of my all time favorite things to do. =) This month I want to:
.work really hard on writing my novel
    .make some money
    .read more
    .have a bonfire with friends
    .take lot's o'pics
.catch up on school (notice how that's last?)
    =)

  25. Love this! I was actually thinking for doing the same sort of thing on my blog, basically just to keep me on track! ha!
Also, I'm a crazy list maker. I make TONS of lists. all. the. time.
    A few of my goals:
    -work out daily
    -make senior recital programs
    -purchase a lens
For the drinking water thing- I bought one of those plastic insulated cups (I got mine at walmart, but they have them at target too) its really colorful and fun, anyway, I found that having a cool cup to drink out of helps me drink more water. Also, just constantly keeping it near my desk/work area, that way I keep drinking it. I also have this super awesome water bottle I take when I'm on the go all day. So... yah thats what I do. hope that was somewhat helpful... ;)
    okay <3

  26. I should really start working out, running, eating healthier, and drinking more water, but I am not that motivated... My advice for drinking more water is to get a water bottle that is easy for you to carry around.
    Have a great day!

  27. I have attempted the water thing. Unfortunately, I stopped because working in an office and having to go to the washroom every 30 minutes was not conducive to getting much work done! I found a Nalgene that I liked that I could carry around with me. It held 2.5 cups. So as long as I drank it empty three times a day, I was good.

Another trick I have heard of is drinking one glass every time you go to the washroom ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I know this might sound silly but I've found that drinking out of a water bottle helps me to drink more consistently. The task of accomplishing drinking the water til its all gone in a glass is way harder for me to do. :) I've also heard that taking your weight and dividing it in half is the number of oz you should drink. (i.e. 120lbs would be 60 oz of water everyday)

Also, do you have someone to exercise with? that always helps me, then i have an accountability partner & its more fun!

Hebrews is one of my favorite books of the bible along with Romans :) You just might fill a whole journal up while reading it!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Lists are amazing. I love making them! :)
My May goals include finishing school, redesigning my blog, deciding for once whether I should get a Canon 7D or a Canon Mark II (it's mainly the flash that makes me hesitate), run at least two times each week, etc...

  30. First of all, I love Hebrews. So, so, so much. Literally everytime I read anywhere in it, there's something so relevant to my life it's not even funny.
Secondly, I carry around a water bottle (a Thermos one, so it keeps it cold, I do not like luke warm water) and I know that I have to drink two fulls bottles of it everyday. Keeps me accountable.

  31. I definitely need to get back into going to the library again! LOVE this picture of Grace! I wrote a post on goals on my blog yesterday too and it includes running every weekday this month, drinking more H2O, eating healthier, getting on instagram more, and others! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I love making lists! I pretty much make them all the time. :) That picture of Gracie is so beautiful,i can't wait to see the rest of them! And for drinking water,i always have a water bottle i carry around(even in the house),and it holds 24oz,so i only have to fill it up twice in a day :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Drinking water tips... hmm. Well, if you typically drink anything else other than water during the day, you could substitute it with water (except for like, coffee in the morning. haha.) :)

I want to start making monthly goals! I think I'm going to make some for May.

    ReplyDelete
  34. List of goals? I'm in. It's a compulsion of mine too, and I find it really helps me feel better about myself and what's going on. (Control freak, much? Yup, that's me. Ahaha.)
Anyhoo, that picture still takes my breath away! :)

  35. Mmm. May. Such a beautiful name.

This May I'm collaborating with my new photographer-friend in my area and helping her shoot a wedding. I'm going to visit with friends, and I'm determined to talk to other friends about Christ. I'm going to take the SAT this Saturday and I'm not going to let it ruin the next 3 days. Reading+thinking about the Lord will happen, and I will read a good book. I want to invest in long distance friends, and right my grandmother a letter. And like you, I'm going to work out more. I'll never be satisfied with anything less than my after-P90x body. :(

It was good to read your goals. I'm lookin forward to reading posts about them!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. *WRITE my grandmother a letter. I'm hometeached. I can do this.

    ReplyDelete
  37. ("hometeached" was a joke fyi. I'm seriously not stoopid.)

  38. Seriously inspring post! I love when people share their goals! One of my goals this month is to read through 1 & 2 Samuel, and Romans! :) Also, to save up for a new camera!

  39. i hope you reach EVERY single goal, hannah! but i know you will. : )

    ReplyDelete
  40. hannah, you are awesome - you CAN do this! noble goals, my friend. beautiful blog makeover too. you are ohhh so talented.

    ReplyDelete
  41. And oh! A tip for drinking water is to make yourself not not drink ANYTHING until you have a cup (or bottle) of water first. That is what I do and it works really well! Self discipline. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. My goals:

-Wake up at 7 most mornings.
    -Finish school for the summer.
    -Read The Silmarillion.
-Practice using manual mode on my DSLR.
-Journal at least every two days.
-Make some money to pay for an iPod Touch and/or a bus ticket.

As for the water drinking... I read that drinking tea is the next best thing to water. So you could try 4 cups of water, 2 cups of tea. Essentially tea is just water with tea leaves steeped into it, right? ;)

    Once again, you're amazing.

  43. I too am hoping to finalize my business cards and order them :) I'm also hoping to do several Senior sessions. And finish school (just three weeks left for me!!!!). As to drinking water, I have a hard time too. I find that if I have a water bottle with me all day, then I'll usually end up filling it up numerous times. For whatever reason having a water bottle vs. a cup helps me drink more. :)
