I am itching for summer. It's so close that I can feel it. Each day is whispering of it, the steady hum growing louder and louder into a full out song. I run barefoot and drink iced tea like it's nobody's business and pretend that I'll tan and freckle if I spend the hours outside. I've been listening to summer music and dreaming of the day June arrives, when I can slip off the past school year and embrace the three months of sweet simplicity and summer fun. I have oodles of essays to finish and several tests to take before I can say goodbye to the past few months, but I'm slowly checking my dwindling to-do list off and June first is getting closer and closer.
I used to fancy myself an autumn girl, but more and more, I am falling full out in love with summer. Summer brings to mind roadtrips spent laughing with hair streaming, days lounging all lazy at the lake, nights spent slapping mosquitoes and roasting marshmallows over campfires burning red and gold. It makes me think of camping under the stars and for staying up till two in the morning laughing. It's filled with the slap of cards at worn tables, family vacations and traditions, and going barefoot under grass grown green. Summer is for deep breaths and full-bellied laughter, so much that your eyes crinkle and your face hurts. And it's for adventures.
This weekend was the first glimpse of a summer that's steadily approaching. We spent Sunday at my grandparents, playing cards and sitting outside and gardening in black dirt smelling deep of earth and laughing and talking about Woodland. To say I'm excited for this summer is an understatement. So while I wait for a day that inches closer and closer, I've put together a little summer playlist for you all. Enjoy, and happy Monday!
What are you most excited about this summer?

I am DYING for summer. we haven't even had a proper spring here in england, but I hope that our summer is good! beautiful pictures, as always!
ReplyDeletetotally dealing with (embracing, really) the same feelings. summer needs to hurry up. only a week left, thankfully! you can do it, love! (having you as my cheerleader is the best. so here's me being a cheerleader) beautiful photos and thoughts.
ReplyDeletei just love you.
ReplyDeleteah, how lovely! the first photo reminds me of the time i spent with some littles last saturday.
ReplyDeletei'm afraid my relationship with summer has a dent, because since i'm in texas, it's just so hot that i can't concentrate on much. i prefer to think of the current weather (60's-80's) as my summer time, where it's cool and i may still be able to wear a sweater and photograph the sunrise/sunset. but we'll see. i'm definitely looking forward to my sister's swim meets! :)

Ahh, sweet summer...The countdown has begun here in NC too. That's for sure. I can hardly wait! ;)
ReplyDelete6 weeks in the States, starting in 17 days!! Seeing dear, dear friends again. Jamba Juice + Trader Joe's + bubble tea. 10 days of intense + crazy + fun + amazing + learning to love Jesus more + hiking + everything else summer camp with some of my best friends. And everything in between.
ReplyDeleteAhh. Yes. I'm a summer girl all the way. But sometimes I feel when I say that, it's an excuse for "I don't like school, so I like summer. Duh." No. Give me hot weather and sun, water and green grass. That's bliss.
ReplyDeleteLove your playlist. Love you!
I'm agreed!! this week & next... then freedom!! I CAN DO IT!! :P ahahaha. I totally get you. :P
ReplyDeleteI totally get this feeling....I can't wait for summer without exams to begin!!! Love the playlist, so much! x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos, and we are definitely on the same page! Unfortunately I don't get out until the end of June, but this weekend was such a glimpse of summer that I think I'll be able to make it! ;) and this playlist is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteStunning pictures!! And I loove summer too! Though since I'll be taking summer classes and working there will not be a lot of free time... But I still love the summer feeling :)
ReplyDeleteSummer... I really can't decide which season I like best, but summer is awesome. I love the warm weather, and the way everything officially comes to life. I love going out on my moms deck, and feeling the scorching hot wood that my feet are stepping on. I love the smell of the freshly cut grass in the summer sun. Yes, I can't wait for summer either =D

ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos and great playlist- I love Paradise and Somewhere Only We Know! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm only a day away from summer, technically. I can't wait! I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteBut I have to.
Beautiful words. I live in Australia where it is freezing at the moment and I so want the warmth of summer. It is funny because you like to blog about seasons, and you always have something good to say about each one. I guess I feel a little behind in Australia. Anyways wonderful blog.

ReplyDeleteThis summer I'm mostly looking forward to summer camp, possibly meeting new friends, and a new season of volleyball.
Yes, yes, yes! Couldn't agree more. "Summer is for deep breaths and full-bellied laughter." Seems like summer is a deep breath in and of itself, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteLove this! What lens were you using?
