hey! my first attempt at vlogging

May 4, 2012

So, I did something I've never done before. Awhile ago, a friend on formspring asked if I'd ever done a vlog or would ever do a vlog. At first, I dismissed the question, because, let's face it, I'm kind of crazy/a total nerd (seriously), so a vlog from me would be interesting to say the least. Buuuut...I thought about it somemore, and because I wanted to do something different, I attempted a vlog for you all. Please don't laugh. Or, feel free too, honestly. I laughed at myself, so it's all good. For real. :)

A FEW NOTES:
I was having a bad hair day, okay?! ;)
I said like about forty times in the beginning and annoyed myself.
I'm kind of awkward sometimes.
My brain was dead. The end.
It's long, I know. I'm new to this whole vlogging thing.
Please excuse my frequent grammatical mistakes.
Umm...I laughed at myself, so if you did too, that's okay. I completely understand.
I really talk with my hands.
Sorry about the weird transitions. The original was like 15 minutes long. I had to splice and dice, yo.
I make jokes that I think are funny. Usually, they're not. I still laugh.

If there's enough interest, I'm thinking of making this a weekly thing. Is there anything you'd like to hear more about? Any questions you have? Like I said, the original was over fifteen minutes long, and I have some content on photography and branding that I do want to share with you all. Maybe making it into a series? Would love to hear your thoughts!

  3. It's so cool to hear people talk after reading their writings for so long. I talk with my hands a lot, too - whether the medium of communication I'm really using is my voice, writing, or something else. I think it's a way that creative minds try to piece together what they are going to say, and/or "draw" a picture for whomever is listening.

Welp. Analyzation on talking with your hands. #ProudNerd

  4. This was a great start at vlogging! I literally laughed out loud when you were talking about your relationship with Google. ^_^ Anyways, these were some helpful tips!! I've come to realize (just like you said) that usually people will revisit a blog because it sparked something inside of them, or they felt a certain way when they read the posts, or they just enjoyed the content. I've tried a couple attempts at full-out text posts alongside my client postings, and people have enjoyed them! It's just staying consistent and making sure to always produce quality posts no matter what. I also seem to struggle with having a good crowd always checking back on my blog... it seems like I've only got about 3 good followers that keep checking back for new uploads. :/ I think in your situation it really helps that you're connected to other people through blogspot. For me, I'm just a solo blog out there trying to scoop up some attention. ;) But enough rambling from me! Great post!! :)

  5. I love this, Hannah. I was laughin (with you, not at you! ;D) the whole time. :)
People ask me how I learned to graphics design all the time as well! And then I'm just like.."uh, I google things. And sorta try things out. If they fail, I try something else...uh...yeah." Hah!
I would love to see this as a weekly thing! I have a question: how long have you been graphic designing?

  10. Ahhhh, love this girl! You are so cute and sweet and I LOVE your Minnesotan accent! Truly, truly, truly. I've always kinda wished that we had a Pacific Northwestern accent, if we do, somebody please do tell. I got my wish after a fashion though, now my friends tell me I have a sweet little American accent in French. Haha! Really though, this was awesome and YES PLEASE to weekly vlogs! Help keep the smile quota up!

  23. Hehe :D. It was SO fun hearing your voice for the first time! Well, I take that back. You posted a video of you singing a song you wrote a while back. But this is the first time I've heard you "talk." Yay!! :D

  30. We. Are. Blogging twins. Seriously, I have the same commenting rule, and I Google pretty much everything when it comes to graphic design.
It was so cool to see you talk (as weird as that may sound.) I thought you said you had an accent? If so, I didn't notice it. Well... till the end, when you said "Dontcha know?" X) (Too adorable.)

You should totally make this a weekly thing. And maybe sometime, you can talk more about how you and Carlotta met. (I think I asked you about it on Formspring, but maybe not.)

  31. um hi. you're adorable. i'm going to call you today hopefully. ;)

  32. You know what? When you said in a post recently that you have an accent, I was thinking of the super thick Minnesota accents my cousins have (I have cousins in MN. Yep.). But seriously, yours is way easier to listen to and I loved your vlog!! :) I don't think I'd ever do one- I consider my blog to be a only a place to post pictures, not write- but if I did, oh goodness. My great big Mississippi accent would triple while I recorded the video. And not on purpose, either. :D

    ReplyDelete
  33. You are soooo cute! Gah, I love your accent (probably because it's not tooooo northern. I didn't just say that. Ok I did ;)). Anyhoo, enjoyed hearing ya!

    ReplyDelete
  34. P.S. I love your hair. Just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  35. You sound so American.
I know that sounds so stupid but obviously I always read your blog posts in my own inner voice, but just thinking of you talking with your hands a lot, but not really in an American accent. And now I'm like "aah! Hannah's accent is amazing!"
    So yeah.

  36. Love your vlog Hannah!! :) Please do more! I always like to see the girl's behind the blogs I read, hear what they sound like and see their personalities. You are so cheerful and sweet.

I was wondering, could you send me an email (emroo19@gmail.com) or leave a comment at my blog (emilytheindustrious.blogspot.com) on how you got "You Might Also Like..." (with included pictures and links to past posts) to appear underneath your post? I've been exasperatingly trying to figure this out and I fail.
    =/
If you could let me know, I was REALLY appreciate it. ;)
    Thanks!
Btw, what made you want to start ballet?

  41. oh yay! I'm pretty sure I was the person that asked you on formspring about doing a vlog, so I'm ever so happy to see one. (: you're adorable, dontcha know. and I don't think it's possible for you to have a bad hair day...I honestly don't believe it. ;)

  42. I know pretty much everyone has said this, but you are adorable. And I love your accent :) It's nice for us to see the girl behind the posts/text sometimes, which is why vlogs make a nice change.
I would say, make it a weekly thing if you want, to spruce things up, but don't feel obligated to focus more on vlogging or anything.

  47. It's always fun to hear someone's voice after only reading their posts. It makes it feel like you're more of a real person, you know? I mean, I've always known you're real, but this, like, solidifies it. Oh, and I like your idea of always commenting after reading a post. That's a good rule to have. I need to comment more.

  48. i loved this! it was so adorable :) your voice was not quite like i imagined it, but it was awesome to finally hear your voice after reading your writing for so long.

  49. Haha! You are too cute for words. And if there ever was I bad hair day...I didn't see it. Lovely as always. I liked some of the things you mentioned like your blog being about you, but not about you; and comment on every post you read. Those were good points. While I am not one to care how many followers I have, I do want to and strive to make my blog welcoming, and one that offers that feeling they're looking for. :)

PS: Great advice about blogging! And what a great idea about commenting after reading a post! I'm going to start doing that; I don't do it often enough, and I want to let bloggers know that I love what they're doing.

    Love this post, and you!!

    Have a wonderful day (:

Anyway, we just saw our neighbors from there a couple weeks ago, and they said "Don'tcha know" a lot, so I thought that was so cute!

I wouldn't mind if these were even longer :)

  72. You know Hannah, if your accent didn't give yourself away as a Minnesotan, your saying goodbyes surely could. That was a true Minnesotan goodbye in vlogging if I ever saw one!

    ReplyDelete
  73. "Like, like, like". I have that problem too!

Accent? I don't here one? But I'm from Minnesota too :)We just moved to North Carolina, so I guess I'll have to mix southern with Minnesotan.

    Loved this!

  74. Love this, Hannah. I'm from Michigan, so I don't think you have an accent at all. I also talk with my hands, vociferously. You should vlog again sometime!

  75. My dad's from Minnesota, so I guess I'm used to the accent because I couldnn't hear it. ;) I'm so glad to know what you voice sounds like now, though (in a completely un-creepy way! haha). You're just SO adorable and I loved the video! :)

  77. This is the sweetest thing I've seen for the day! Finally, a real vlog from you! It was wonderful to hear your voice at last. You are simply adorable and funny. Oh, I see we're pretty similar in some aspects. I usually spend an extensive amount of time on Google, trying to learn how to graphic design. And I speak with my hands all the time.

I'm going to echo what the rest are saying: make more vlogs, please! 'Cause dontcha know...I loved this one!

  78. That was cute! Cute. Cute. Cute.
You are cute. Cute. Cute. Cute.
It's funny, but I didn't think you sounded too different! I expected all kinds of strange stuff - but I only heard Minnesota a few times.

You should vlog more. It took me about 5 times before I didn't feel so self conscious.
    See ya!
    Have a great day!

  79. I love it! And I really do love your accent. I'm surrounded by Tennessee accents all the time so yours is quite nice to hear...really. haha! I speak with my hands too! Sometimes it doesn't work as well as I would like because I end up whacking someone..but oh well. haha. I do have a question actually---maybe a few!
    1. Do you do any kind of street photography?
    2. Did you ever have a sort of "fear" of pointing a camera at some random person?
    3. If so, how did you overcome that?
Thanks! Love your blog and I'm always inspired when I leave!
